Brooklyn, New York
Builders in Brooklyn and other boroughs have now built with Omni Block. On a 30′ x 80′ building that is 3 stories high, Omni Block is saved them approximately 74 square feet of livable space per floor due to no furring, additional wall insulation and exterior wall sheetrock. At a sale price of $1,100 a square foot, that is over $80,000 of additional revenue per floor and Omni Block also saved them about $8,000 in first cost per floor.
Notice that the #5 vertical rebar is every 32″ in this 3-story building. Typically, one #5 every 48″ is what is required.
The general contractor is now on his third such building and has stated that Omni Block is just like working with standard CMU, only better!
Third-Party Cost Estimator Evaluates Omni Block
Jim Nuckolls with Construction Cost Systems, Houston, TX has evaluated Omni Block and compared its cost to other wall assemblies.
In 2018, Omni Block (including insulation inserts) is typically $2.50 more than standard uninsulated CMU. Back in 2013 Mr. Nuckolls’ provided his third-party estimate to furr, insulate and sheetrock a standard CMU wall was $4.29 per square foot. As of 2018, those prices have gone up to a minimum of $5.00 per square foot.
Not only is it less money “first cost” to use Omni Block, but there is more useable space and interior durability.
